Your Pathway to Better Health through Self-Management

Day 13

Give of Yourself and You Discover Happiness! . . . Unimaginable Happiness!

What better strategy to use for getting your mind off your difficulties and ignoring temptation than to volunteer in your community to help others in need?!
The coaching session is brief today but packed with motivational advice.

Preventing a New Generation of Nicotine Addicts

Tobacco Free Kids has played a major role in educating populations around the world about the dangers of smoking and other forms of tobacco use.  As their name reveals, they are most interested in preventing children from starting.  The efforts have been successful over the long road . . . smoking has been reduced by 70% among children and youth.  But you can learn more about their work on their website under the menu tab About Us.  Their "What We Do" section lists the many actions and organizations they have been involved with as advocates.  Perhaps you would like to join them.  Currently, their mission is to urge legislation in states and federal government to reduce deathly consequences to children and youth from using e-cigarettes and vaping.

Their staff around the country will be working with state and local lawmakers to:

  • Raise the tobacco use age to 21,
  • Make public and work places smoke-free,
  • Increase tobacco taxes,
  • Ban kid-friendly flavors of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vaping machines,
  • Take tobacco out of sports, and
  • Fund programs that prevent kids from smoking and help smokers quit.

Here is a constructive suggestion:  Contribute the money you are saving by no longer using tobacco of any kind (for the average person that is approximately $3,000/year) to Tobacco Free Kids to help them accomplish their goals in saving the health and lives of youth!

With Each Breath (Blog)

Psalm 63:5 through Psalm 63:8 (NIV)
My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.
Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
